Jalisco’s on River Parkway

Pull into the parking lot of Jalisco’s Mexican Restaurant and the first thing you hear is the falls of the city, a steady crash of water over lava rocks.  For me, it is relaxing. I love the sound of the river.  I will never tire of it.  It’s constant.  Unchanging.  Therefore, this restaurant is in the perfect spot, nestled on the Westbank next to the Broadway Bridge.

Before lunch, I plopped down on this fashionable potato seat across the street.

Sun of my soul

A Christian sister, Leah Bird, recently captured this scene in Idaho Falls.

It reminds me of words that saints sing:

Sun of my soul, Thou Savior dear,

It is not night if Thou be near;

O may no earth-born cloud arise

To hide Thee from Thy servant’s eyes.

Prayer and teenagers

001

This banner can be seen along Pancheri across the street from Skyline High School.  Rumor has it that teenagers will be gathering next Wednesday on the school campus to pray.  Prayer takes us to our roots.  Prayer reveals trust in a living, loving God.

Sufficiency in all things

images[1]

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8

I read this today.  With such experiential truth in our God, what more do we need?

Buffalo Wild Wings

004

Along the west bank of the Snake River and tucked within the Snake River Landing, this nation-wide chain hangout, Buffalo Wild Wings, beckons teenagers, singles, couples, and families.  They seriously demonstrate their motto of “Wings, Beer, and Sports” with 22 signature sauces and seasonings for chicken wings, a central pub in the middle of the restaurant, and 59 screens (a few being massive projection) on the walls for sports viewing. Excerpt from today’s Bible reading

I utilize The NKJV Daily Bible.

Here is some of today’s portion in Psalms,

He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their chains in pieces.  Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! . . .

He sent His word and healed them . . . (Ps. 107:14-15, 20a)

My afternoon office

This afternoon, the west bank of Idaho Falls happened to be my office.  It’s a great place to work.  I studied to the backdrop of the constant sound of the falls, the beauty of white water cascading, and the intriguing sculptures of lava rocks.

The river is a magnet.  Children skipped.  Couples held hands.  Tourists clicked their cameras.  In fact, one tourist in a German accent asked me if there was a restaurant or coffee shop built somewhere on the banks of the river, equipped with a deck hanging out over the water.  I laughed.

Everyone wanted to be close to the water.  It’s dangerous.  Exciting.  And yet peaceful and nourishing.  There is rest.

My work office scenario points to the kinds of experiences of what Christians find in Jesus.
